Cost Comparisons

 

Consumer Goods:

 

Eleven items regularly consumed by visiting yachtsmen were used for comparison in the study.  Overall, the cost of goods in Trinidad was below that of the rest of the region. Table 1 below exhibits the rank of the countries cost of goods in ascending order, values are in US Dollars.  Trinidad and Tobago was ranked the lowest cost out of 16 countries; this is clearly demarked in diagram 1 below.  Appendix A outlines the full price listing for consumer goods listed by country alphabetical order.

Visiting yachtsmen therefore buying the bundle of goods as indicated in the chart below enjoys favourable prices as compared with its regional neighbours.

These findings indicate that a yachtsmen visiting Trinidad will likely spend less on a daily basis on consumer goods and incidentals than in the neighbouring countries.

 

Given that the average stay in Trinidad is approximately 90 days, this can result in an overall saving on the part of the yachtsmen.
